From its humble but visionary beginnings, Evergreen City Ballet continues to provide high quality dance education, professional-level performances, and a nurturing place for students, families, and community members to flourish.
Evergreen City Ballet (ECB) was established in 1994 and received its non-profit status in 1995. It was established in downtown Auburn, Washington as both a pre-professional ballet school and as a performing company.
From its humble but visionary beginnings, Evergreen City Ballet continues to provide high quality dance education, professional-level performances, and a nurturing place for students, families, and community members to flourish. Beginning from the leadership of Founding Artistic Director Wade Walthall (1994-2008), ECB continues to shape young dancers into successful professionals in the field of dance and beyond, and cultivates a culture of excellence within the communities it serves.
ECB’s mission is to provide high quality dance education and performance opportunities to students of all ages and to enrich the diverse communities in the Puget Sound region through performances, outreach, and community engagement initiatives. Our long-term vision is to be a nationally recognized, premier, pre-professional ballet school with a studio company that cultivates excellence, diversity, inclusiveness, and innovation.
Evergreen City Ballet offers a rigorous, well-rounded, and holistic approach to learning and development. Our diverse program offers classes for all ages from Parent & Tot, to Creative Movement, to the School Division, and the Performance Division. Our School Division and Performance Division students take a wide variety of classes from ballet, pointe, variations, partnering, contemporary, modern, jazz, hip-hop, improvisation, and more.
Some of our graduates have gone on to study at The Juilliard School, University of Washington, and University of Oregon to name a few. Members of our alumni body have also had successful professional careers dancing with San Francisco Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Oregon Ballet Theatre, The Metropolitan Opera Ballet, and on Broadway, just to name a few.
On September 1, 2009, ECB relocated to a state-of-the art, custom-designed facility in the Cedar River Corporate Park, 2230 Lind Avenue SW, in Renton, Washington. The 7,600 square foot facility contains three dance studios, two of which can be joined to form a black box theater, plus offices and costume and set storage. A ten year lease ensures the company’s long-term stability and reinforces our commitment to the Renton community and its surroundings.
Evergreen City Ballet continues to thrive under the artistic leadership of Bennyroyce Royon, an ECB alumnus and graduate of the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City. His goal is to bring the world of dance to ECB, Renton, and the Puget Sound region at large.
