Weekly Bulletin - January 18

Evergreen City Ballet

Hello ECB!

Once again, Happy New year and a warm welcome to our new students and families who have joined us after ECB’s Open House last weekend! The Weekly Bulletin is the place where you will find all sorts of information about upcoming events or pertaining to ECB’s classes.

This week is a big email, we have a couple of Workshops/Seminars that are coming up here at ECB, please find the information on the first one below and many other important dates to keep note off. If you have any questions please respond to this email!

MLK Jr. Day Reminder

This is a reminder that ECB will be closed on Monday, January 20th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. No classes or rehearsals will be held during this time. All programming will resume as normal on Tuesday, January 21st.

Season Finale Date Change

Due to theater availability, this year's Season Finale has been moved to Friday, June 20th and will be held at the Federal Way Performing Arts Center. More details will be provided in the coming months. If you are new to our school, Season Finale is our annual end-of-year production where students in Creative Movement and above are invited to participate and showcase to their families all of the progress that they have made through their hard work all year.

The deadline to confirm your dancer's participation in Season Finale will be Saturday, April 5. Participation will be confirmed by signing your child up in the Season Finale camp on iClassPro once the sign-up goes live in the coming weeks. More details to follow!

Please find an updated school calendar linked below with the updated performance date.

Mid-Year Conferences

Mid-year conferences will be held in person at ECB from January 15-January 31. This is a great time for us to check in on the progress of our students, discuss their summer dance plans, and do some goal-setting for the remainder of the season. Mid-year conferences also give us the opportunity to further support our students by listening to their needs and providing them with a safe space for them to express themselves. Conferences are optional and available to all ECB students who would like one. However, students in Upper Ballet IV & up are strongly encouraged to sign up.

You can sign up for a 30-minute meeting down below. If you would like to request a conference but don't see an available time that works for you, please email Mr. Nathan at principal@evergreencityballet.org so he can help find another time that works.

Mental Health Workshop

On Saturday, February 8th, we are excited to host Josh Spell (MSW, LICSW) for a special mental health workshop from 2:30pm-4:00pm focused on distress tolerance and stress management in the dance studio. Mr. Spell as a former dancer with Pacific Northwest Ballet and now serves as their Consulting Therapist. Some of you may remember him from the seminars he's lead at our previous summer intensives. Get to know more about him below!

Josh Spell is a licensed social worker in the state of Washington and currently works in private practice in Seattle. Before beginning his practice, Josh worked in the eating disorder field and generalized behavioral health settings. He earned a master’s degree in social work from the University of Washington and received his undergraduate degree from Seattle University. Josh was a Company dancer with Pacific Northwest Ballet from 2001 to 2011 and also danced with Kansas City Ballet. He trained at the School of American Ballet and attended Summer Course at Pacific Northwest Ballet School. Josh danced a wide range of repertory from George Balanchine to Twyla Tharp. Among his favorite roles were the second sailor in Jerome Robbin’s Fancy Free, Puck in George Balanchine’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Benvolio in Jean-Christophe Maillot’s Roméo et Juliette and roles in Sechs Tänze and Petite Mort by Jiri Kylián. His former career as a professional ballet dancer informs his current approach, and he is passionate about working with. Josh is excited to return to the dance world in a new role consulting with professional and aspiring dancers from a holistic perspective.

This workshop will be free of charge and open for ECB students in Upper Ballet IV & up. If your dancer plans to attend, please click here to reserve their spot.
